Personal

  • His older sister was an Arashi(Johnny's Group) fan and she sent an application to the Johnny's Agency without telling him. After the audition he successfully joined the agency as a trainee, but the dance lessons that took place every week were so hard, he told his mom that he wanted to quit. But after his mom said "I'll buy you a soccer badge" he decided to stay.
  • From the time he joined the agency (2001) to the year 2004, he had the most high pitched voice in the history of Johnny's. Many people called his voice "An Angel's Voice". Using that voice and his talent for singing, soon after he joined the agency he was told to sing solos and medleys on TV.
  • For the musical, PLAZONE 2002, he was given his first solo song, Boku wa tada…. Not many trainees can get a solo song.
  • In The Shounen Club, the most popular TV show for Johnny's Jr, over 100 Johnny's Jr.s performed but his performances stood out the most. Even his seniors, NEWS, KAT-TUN, and other Johnny's Jr. groups became backdancers for Yabu.
  • In NEWS's first single, NEWS Nippon, he sang the high pitched notes and his voice is recorded in the CD.
  • In 2006, he wrote the lyrics to a song for the first time which was Asu e. In that lyrics, he put one or two chinese letter from the Ya-Ya-yah members' names. (Kota's Ko means vast or large, Hikaru's Hikaru means light, Taiyo's Taiyo means sun, Shoon's Sho means fly)
  • He has an older brother and an older sister.
  • He looks up to Domoto Koichi of the group Kinki Kids as a mentor.
  • He was named Kota because his parents wanted him to have a large(Ko) heart.
  • He is close to Akanishi Jin of KAT-TUN who was rumored to have even called Yabu's mother and ask her if he could adopt him as his younger brother. Akanishi even said to Yabu, "Stay beside me until you're 14 years old".

Career

On September 23, 2001, he entered Johnny & Associates as a trainee. Inoo Kei, a member of the same group as him, was also there during that time.

He had the most talented dance skills and high pitched voice which let him get to the top member of Johnny's Junior.

Two months later, he was chosen to be the leader of Ya-Ya-yah. They released a CD which was very unusual because they were still members of Johnny's Junior.

On September 21, 2007, he began performing as a member of Hey! Say! JUMP.

  • He became the lead singer for a Junior Unit Ya-Ya-yah.
  • He hates tomatoes, cucumbers and green peaches.

Hey!Say!JUMP

Hey! Say! JUMP is a J-pop group under Johnny & Associates, made up of ten members. Hey! Say! JUMP is considered an expansion of the original Hey! Say! 7. The name Hey! Say! refers to the fact that all the members were born in the Heisei period and JUMP is an acronym for Johnny's Ultra Music Power.

History

As Hey! Say! 7 (Temporary Group)

  • In a KAT-TUN spring concert on 3 April 2007, 5 members of Johnny's Jr's were named to be part of a new group called Hey! Say! 7. These members were Yuya Takaki, Daiki Arioka, Ryosuke Yamada,Yuto Nakajima, and Yuuri Chinen. Initially, the temporary status of the group was unclear, worrying a lot of fans of Johnny Jr's groups J.J. Express as it could mean that the group was splitting up and that Yuya Takaki and Daiki Arioka would permanently be in this group instead.
  • On 16 June 2007, it was announced that Hey! Say! 7 would release a single, Hey! Say!, which was then used as the opening song for the popular anime Love★Com (Lovely Complex). The single also contains the ending song used for the same anime, titled BON BON. This is the first time a Johnny's Jrs group released a single since Ya-Ya-yah in 2002, and there was uncertainty in whether if the debut is permanent or just a CD release.
  • On 1 August 2007, the single Hey! Say! was released. The following week, on 8 August 2007, Oricon Style confirmed that Hey! Say! sold 120,520 copies in its first week and this made it top the Oricon Weekly Charts.. At the same time, Hey! Say! 7 broke an all-time record by being the youngest group to ever reach the number 1 spot in the Oricon chart, with their average age being just 14.8 years.
  • In the month of August, the single Hey! Say! topped the Oricon Monthly Charts, outselling even their Johnny's Entertainment seniors, Tackey and Tsubasa and TOKIO. Since then, the Hey! Say! single had been certified gold by the RIAJ.

Transition to Hey! Say! JUMP

  • On 24 September 2007, in a live television event from the Johnny's Jr's concert in Yokohama Arena, it was announced that the group would debut under a new name. Hey! Say! JUMP consists of all 5 members of Hey! Say! 7, now split into two subgroups and are joined by 5 other Johnny's Jr's. It has also been announced that they will debut their single on 14 November 2007, titled Ultra Music Power, and the song will also be used as Japan's Volleyball World Cup Relay 2007 Theme Song[4][5][6].

Grouping

Former Hey! Say! 7 (Temporary Group)

The former Hey! Say! 7 (temporary group) which existed from 3 April 2007 - 23 September 2007 consists of 5 members. This group no longer exists, although the name had been recycled to be used as a new subgroup under Hey! Say! JUMP. The members of this group have been split up into the two new subgroups.
